Occasionally there are strolls of about 3 or 4 miles and would be described as 'easy' in the national Rambler's definition.
The pace can vary with the terrain and at the discretion of the leader. We would like to encourage more people to car share and some of the walks accommodate this by suggesting meeting up at a specific point. Also consider contacting people who live near you to arrange a lift. For those walkers who like to use public transport please note that if 3 (up to 9) people travel together on a train they may be eligible for a group discount. For 'bus' walks contact the walk leader to confirm bus times. Also please check bus shelter for alterations to schedules.
Incidents on walks
Groups are invited to note the following recommendations:- The leader and back marker should always carry a map so that the emergency services can be given accurate directions in the event of an incident. There is an app for smartphones called 'What3Words' that can pinpoint a location to within a few yards. Some emergency services are already using it.
- Ensure that the leader and back marker remain in contact with each other. It will also be helpful if the leader has an emergency first aid kit in case of trips although all walkers are advised to carry their own basic first aid kit.
- Berkshire Area Ramblers have produced guidelines for Dealing with Livestock on Walks, which gives practical advice on dealing with farm animals.
