Mid Berks Ramblers

Our Walking Holiday on the Gower

We always describe the holidays as Monday to Friday (in the recent case 23-27 September 2019) but of course the Monday and Friday are for travelling and many people stop off at some interesting places on the way.

We had three days of walks – three medium (around 7 miles) and three long (around 11 miles). The weather forecast was for lots of rain and wind but in the event it was really okay with only the occasional short shower and just a breeze.
The hotel – Oxwich Bay Hotel - was a great place to stay – right next to the beach, with some walks starting from the hotel. All in all a very enjoyable time, as always. Ron and Paul thanked the people who made it so good, but it is worth doing again, in writing to everyone - the holiday would not have been possible without the hard work, attention to detail and 'marketing' of Maggie Hills.
The walk leaders were essential (after all, this was a walking holiday!) so huge thanks to Ali Melabie, Liz Hewitt, Marian Waters (who did all three long walks as well as nominating the hotel), Mike & Gloria Ryall. Special thanks to Monica Hills who led the strolls and leads many other walks (see our walks programme). We had three very different light quizzes – not compulsory at all but they generated great pleasure. Thanks to Jill Kendall, Mike Newman and Mike Coulson. There were the usual groans when some unfound answers were revealed. We even had a 'point of order', skilfully put down. All of this would have been wasted if a good crowd had not come – so thanks to everyone who participated.
