Walks Programme

Thank you

Rita and Chris have been producing the programme of walks, and the Mid Berks Newsletter, for the last 8 years. This is their final one, so we would like to say "Thanks" for all their efforts. They are not going away, however, and will continue to lead walks.

Help!

We are still looking for more members to lead walks, both long and short distances. Any of the experienced walk leaders will be happy to give you help if you need a little confidence to get started.

All walks have a short break, the longer walks a short break plus up to half an hour for lunch. The average pace of the medium walks is 2 miles per hour and the long 2.5 to 3 miles per hour but this can vary with the terrain and at the discretion of the leader. The longer walks tend to be faster paced than the shorter ones.

We would like to encourage more people to car share and some of the walks accommodate this by suggesting meeting up at a specific point. Also consider contacting people who live near you to arrange a lift.

For those walkers who like to use public transport please note that if 3 (up to 9) people travel together on a train they may be eligible for a group discount. For "bus" walks contact the walk leader to confirm bus times. Also please check bus shelter for alterations to schedules.

Walks Finder

To see a map of all Ramblers walks available in the Reading area, visit Ramblers' Walks Finder.

Incidents on walks

Groups are invited to note the following recommendations:

  • The leader and back marker should always carry a map so that the emergency services can be given accurate directions in the event of an incident.
  • Ensure that the back marker can contact the leader in the event of an incident. It will also be helpful if the leader has an emergency first aid kit in case of trips.
  • Berkshire Area Ramblers have produced guidelines for Dealing with Livestock on Walks, which gives practical advice on dealing with farm animals.

Leaders' mobile phone numbers are given on the contacts page if you have any further queries. You can also click on the leader's name in the programme below to see their mobile phone number (if it is available). Further contact details, such as landline numbers, are available in the printed and emailed versions of the programme.

If you intend to join a walk in extreme weather conditions, please check with the leader before setting out, to save an unnecessary journey.
